SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State suffered a 3-2
exhibition loss to the U.S.A. National U-18 Team Sunday at Taffy
Abel Arena.
The Lakers open regular-season play Oct. 11-12 against Robert
Morris from the Atlantic Hockey League. Friday's game starts at
7:37 p.m. with Saturday's game starting at 5:07 p.m.
Senior forward Dan Radke netted both LSSU goals. Radke's first
goal tied the game 1-1 at 3:29 of the first period. Senior forward
Colin Campbell drew the lone assist on Radke's goal. USA netted a
power-play goal at 11:40 of the first, making it 2-1.
After a scoreless second period, Radke notched a power-play goal
at 10:27 of the third, tying the game 2-2. Campbell and senior
defenseman Zach Sternberg were credited with the assists.
With two Lakers in the penalty box, the U.S. team's Anders Bjork
tallied the game-winning goal at 17:35. The U-18s enjoyed a 5-on-3
advantage for 1:59 and scored with 27 seconds left in the power
play.
Senior netminders Kevin Kapalka and Kevin Murdock both totaled
13 saves for the Lakers. Kapalka played the first 30:12 minutes,
while Murdock finished the last 29:06. Edwin Minney tallied 39
saves for USA.
The U-18s improved to 6-1 overall and 1-1 against U.S. college
teams.
