Greyhounds press their way to seven-point road win

Box Score

SAULT STE. MARIE - Indianapolis was forced to press throughout most of the second half to negate Lake Superior State's hot three-point shooting.

The Greyhounds (3-1) won 72-65 Friday afternoon to spoil the Laker women's basketball team's home opener.

LSSU (0-2) was 10-of-22 from three-point range and held Indy to 32.8 percent from the field with a solid defensive effort. Laker junior Stephanie Fisher was 4-of-7 from behind the arc to lead the long-range attack. Senior guard Raven Trammell was 2-for-5 as six different Lakers canned three-pointers.

Indianapolis made two free throws and back-to-back baskets after two LSSU turnovers to pull away from a 60-60 tie during the final 2:17 of the game. Trammell cut it to two points, 66-64, with 15 seconds to go, but the Greyhounds were 6-of-6 at the line during the final seconds.

Fisher scored 14 points and Trammell 12 to lead LSSU. Laura VanEs pulled off a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Lakers shot 42.3 percent from the field and 11-of-19 at the free-throw line. They totaled 18 turnovers to UIndy's 13.

Katy McIntosh totaled 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Indianapolis. Shelby Wall scored 11 points and Eliza Wortman 10. The Greyhounds were 5-of-21 from behind the arc and made 27-of-33 free throws. They out-rebounded LSSU, 43-26.

Both teams scored 15 points off turnovers during the second half. LSSU led at halftime, 31-27.
