Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Indianapolis was forced to press throughout
most of the second half to negate Lake Superior State's hot
three-point shooting.
The Greyhounds (3-1) won 72-65 Friday afternoon to spoil the
Laker women's basketball team's home opener.
LSSU (0-2) was 10-of-22 from three-point range and held Indy to
32.8 percent from the field with a solid defensive effort. Laker
junior Stephanie Fisher was 4-of-7 from behind the arc to lead the
long-range attack. Senior guard Raven Trammell was 2-for-5 as six
different Lakers canned three-pointers.
Indianapolis made two free throws and back-to-back baskets after
two LSSU turnovers to pull away from a 60-60 tie during the final
2:17 of the game. Trammell cut it to two points, 66-64, with 15
seconds to go, but the Greyhounds were 6-of-6 at the line during
the final seconds.
Fisher scored 14 points and Trammell 12 to lead LSSU. Laura
VanEs pulled off a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lakers shot 42.3 percent from the field and 11-of-19 at the
free-throw line. They totaled 18 turnovers to UIndy's 13.
Katy McIntosh totaled 24 points and eight rebounds to lead
Indianapolis. Shelby Wall scored 11 points and Eliza Wortman 10.
The Greyhounds were 5-of-21 from behind the arc and made 27-of-33
free throws. They out-rebounded LSSU, 43-26.
Both teams scored 15 points off turnovers during the second
half. LSSU led at halftime, 31-27.
