Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Walsh held Lake Superior State to one point
during the final three minutes of overtime to win Saturday's Great
Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game,
76-69.
Five players scored in double figures for both teams, which have
identical GLIAC records.
Stephanie Fisher led LSSU (1-7 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) with 18
points and five rebounds. Laura VanEs and Kandace Crittendon scored
12 points each. Megan Manninen scored 11 points, including a
game-tying jumper with two seconds remaining in regulation. Alex
Morrow finished with 10 points.
VanEs also totaled 13 rebounds for her second double double of
the season.
Whitney Dabbelt totaled 15 points and 13 rebounds for Walsh (4-4
overall, 1-3 GLIAC). Kelsey Funderburgh followed with 14 points and
eight rebounds, and Rachael Trujillo had 13 points and five
assists.
LSSU trailed 32-26 at halftime, but held slim leads off and on
during the second half. Walsh went ahead 64-59 with 1:37 to go, but
couldn't answer the Lakers' regulation-ending 30-second flurry that
including a free throw by Manninen, and field goals by April
LaCross and Manninen.
Funderburgh made a three-pointer at 3:19 of overtime for a 69-66
Walsh lead. Fisher answered with a jumper and cut the deficit to
one, but the Lakers were 0-for-3 from the field and committed three
turnovers during the final three minutes.
LSSU shot 37.7 percent from the field, including 6-of-25 from
three-point range, and made 11-of-16 free throws. Walsh shot 43.3
percent from the field, including 9-of-25 from behind the arc, and
made 9-of-18 free throws. Both teams totaled 45 rebounds and 16
turnovers.
LSSU meets Harding in Oahu, Hawaii, Wednesday.
