Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State is one of
only two teams this season to score four goals against No. 3 Miami
this season, but it wasn't enough to beat the RedHawks Friday at
Taffy Abel Arena.
The Lakers (15-17-1 overall, 10-14-1-1 Central Collegiate Hockey
Association) suffered a tough 5-4 loss during a back-and-forth game
that was decided by Marc Hagel's goal at 13:34 of the third
period.
The RedHawks (20-8-5 overall, 15-6-4-4 CCHA) took a 1-0 lead
with a power-play goal at 3:46 of the first. Dan Radke
(4-14--18) scored LSSU's first goal from Chris Ciotti (10-8--18)
and Andrew Perrault (1-12--13). Radke and Ciotti both moved into a
two-way tie for third on the Lakers in points.
Zach Sternberg (5-11--16) shot through the slot to score
his third power-play goal of the season, giving the Lakers a 2-1
lead at 10:20 of the first. Nick McParland (6-15--21) and Buddy
Robinson (8-8--16) drew the assists.
Riley Barber of Miami tied the game at two after taking
advantage of a Laker puck handler being tripped in the RedHawks'
zone. Max Cook gave the RedHawks a 3-2 lead at 12:03 of the
second period.
At 1:41 of the third period, Domenic Monardo (18-11--29) netted
his first goal of the game from Radke and Sternberg. Miami answered
again with a goal a 6:44 of the third.
Monardo scored his second goal of the night at 9:59
during a 5-on-3 power play. Colin Campbell (0-2--2) and Radke
had the assists. With Monardo's two-goal game he moved into a tie
for first in CCHA goal scoring with 14.
Hagel made the most of a Laker turnover on a clearing
pass and tallied the game-winning from Joe Hartman and Kevin
Morris.
Kevin Murdock (9-11-0) stopped 46 shots on goal, while Jay
Williams made 25 saves for the RedHawks. LSSU also had one
disallowed goal.
The Lakers were 2-for-7 on the power-play and held Miami to
1-for-6.
