80-69 Saturday to finish its swing through the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division with a 7-1
record.
It's the 15-1 Lakers' best-ever record against the South
Division, and they own the league's best conference win percentage
heading into the gruelling North Division slate, which begins
Thursday at home against Saginaw Valley State.
LSSU led the evenly-matched contest 35-33 at halftime. Tony
Harris made a jumper at 7:05 of the second half to tie it, 58-58.
The Lakers eventually pulled away when Alex Williams hit a
three-pointer for a 67-62 LSSU lead with 4:56 remaining. After
back-to-back Tiffin turnovers, Williams converted a three-point
play at the 2:30 mark to make it 70-62.
Jake Blake, Derek Billing and Harris hit two free throws each
between 1:59 and 1:02 to cap off a 12-0 run.
Billing totaled 24 points, eight rebounds, four assists and
three steals to lead LSSU. Williams finished with 20 points, and
Harris totaled a GLIAC season-high 18 points and six rebounds.
Cameron Metz finished with 11 points.
LSSU shot 45.8 percent from the field, including 9-of-23 from
three-point range, and made 27-of-30 free throws (90 percent).
Joe Graessle totaled 19 points and seven steals to lead Tiffin
(6-6 overall, 2-5 GLIAC). Mike Boan came off the bench to score 13
points. Tiffin shot 37.7 percent from the field, including 6-of-14
from behind the arc, and made 11-of-16 free throws.
The Dragons out-rebounded LSSU, 40-33.
