Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio- Lake Superior State fell to the Bowling
Green Falcons by a score of 6-2 in the final scheduled game between
the two Western Collegiate Hockey Association schools. For the
Lakers, the loss comes after defeating BGSU in the previous three
matchups, including a home sweep of the Falcons.
The Lakers (12-13-1 overall, 8-10-0 WCHA) took an early
advantage from an unassisted goal by sophomore Bryce Schmitt
(4-4--8). The lead was short-lived as the Lakers allowed three
goals to end the first period. For the Falcons, it was Ben Murphy
(11-3--14), Matt Pohlkamp (6-4--10) and Mark Cooper (12-8--20)
scoring in the first frame.
Cooper picked up his second goal of the night and 12th on the
season at the 12:25 mark of the second period,giving the Falcons a
4-1 advantage. Bowling Green (13-10-5 overall, 10-7-3 WCHA) tacked
on a goal from Adam Berkle (8-6--14) to close out the period and go
into the second intermission with a four-goal advantage.
The Lakers continued the fight early in the third period when
freshman Ian Miller (3-2--5) made it a three-goal differential once
again. Kevin Czuczman (9-9--18) and Mitchell Nardi (2-1--3) were
credited with the assists.
Berkle notched his eighth goal of the season at 15:59 of the
third to complete the scoring.
Goaltender Kevin Murdock (5-8-0) faced Tomas Scholl (4-7-0) for
the second straight night. Scholl alloed two goals on 27 shots.
Murdock faced 42 shots, making 36 saves on the evening.
The Lakers have an upcoming bye week. LSSU plays host to
Alaska-Anchorage Feb. 7-8.
