Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team
defeated Finlandia 91-63 Sunday to close the 2014 portion of its
season with its ninth straight victory.
The Lakers (9-1) are off until a Jan. 2 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown at Lake Erie.
LSSU shot a blistering 8-of-15 from three-point range during the
first half and led 52-25 at intermission. Sophomore Jordan Dasuqi
was 3-for-6 from behind the arc and scored all nine of his points
during that span. He added five assists for the game.
Akaemji Williams, who was 2-for-2 from three-point range, led
the Lakers with 12 points. Alex Williams scored 11 and Jake Blake
10.
All 14 players scored for the Lakers. Devin Daly scored nine
points and led in rebounds with nine. Tony Harris and Mike Smutny
added eight points each. Blake, Mike Nicholson and Derek Reetz
added five rebounds each.
LSSU shot 53.8 percent from the field, including 12-of-28 from
three-point range, and made 9-of-9 free throws. The Lakers
out-rebounded Finlandia, 46-34.
Jarmond Schwartz scored 18 points and Jordan LaPlant added 14 to
lead Finlandia (5-8), whose roster was limited to seven players due
to the holiday break. The Lions shot 31.4 percent from the field,
including 9-of-27 from behind the arc, and made 10-of-14 free
throws.
