Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio - Findlay was 11-for-11 at the free-throw line and
converted two three-point plays while rallying back from an
eight-point deficit during the final 11:48 of Saturday's women's
basketball game against Lake Superior State.
LSSU (3-2 overall, 0-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) couldn't match the Oilers with their long-range
shooting and suffered a 68-63 loss.
Findlay (4-1 overall, 1-1 GLIAC) went on to outscore LSSU 21-4
at the free-throw line. UF's Margaret Wuebker was 9-of-9 at the
line for the game and led all scorers with 19 points.
Findlay took a 62-61 lead with 2:53 remaining following a 14-6
run. LSSU was 2-for-7 from the field during that stretch, and all
seven shots were from behind the arc. The Lakers also missed two
free throws during that span.
LSSU's final points came from a jumper by Kandace Crittendon
that gave her team a 63-62 edge at the 2:09 mark. Findlay answered
with a three-point play by Lacey Kessler. The Lakers committed
turnovers during their next three possessions.
Crittendon and Megan Manninen scored 14 points each to lead
LSSU. Mackenzie Edwards followed with nine points. Crittendon also
contributed five assists and shared LSSU's rebound high of seven
with April LaCross.
LSSU shot 43.6 percent from the field, including 11-of-34 from
three-point range, and made 4-of-6 free throws.
For Findlay, Kessler followed Wuebker in scoring with 14, and
Karli Bonar added 11 points. Wuebker led all rebounders with
10.
UF shot 39.3 percent from the field, including 3-of-11 from
three-point range, and made 21-of-24 free throws. The Oilers were
18-of-21 at the free-throw line during the second half. They
out-rebounded LSSU, 37-30.
Lake Superior State led at halftime, 31-29.
LSSU plays its GLIAC home opener at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against
Malone.
