Lakers fall to the Seawolves in Game 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State fell to the Seawolves of Alaska Anchorage 5-2 in the second game of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekend series.

The fourth-place Seawolves (14-11-3 overall, 10-9-3 WCHA) punched on the Lakers early with the first two goals. They followed with three unanswered goals following the Lakers' first mark at 7:58 of the second period.

Lake Superior (13-14-1, 9-11-0 WCHA) received a second period goal by Bryce Schmitt, which brought the Lakers within a goal. Chris Ciotti (1-9--10) and Zach Loesch (0-8--8) combined for the assists. Anchorage posted a pair of goals prior to a scrum at 12:58 of the second period, which resulted in the ejections of the Lakers' Kevin Czuczman (9-9--18) and  UAA's Dereck Docken.

LSSU's Stephen Perfetto added a goal 34 seconds into the third period and rounded out the scoring. Alex Globke (10-18--28) picked up his fourth assist of the weekend on the goal and Dan Radke (5-14--19) tallied his third point of the home series.

Andrew Pettit had a goal and two assists to lead the Seawolves in scoring. Three of UAA's four lines scored goals.

The WCHA opponents finished their season meetings with a pair of home series splits.

In net for the Lakers, Kevin Murdock (6-9-0) saved 34 of the 39 shots he faced and was summoned to the bench with 3:47 left to play for the Lakers in exhange for an extra attacker. The Seawolves' Rob Gunderson kept the Lakers at bay as he totaled 26 saves on 28 shots. 

LSSU was 0-for-4 on the power play, while Alaska-Anchorage finished 1-for-3.

This evening's game was dedicated to honor Gil Somes, long-time equipment manager for the Lakers, who has been involved with Laker hockey for over four decades. It was also part of the "Whiteout Weekend."

The Lakers travel to Marquette to face Upper Peninsular rival Northern Michigan Feb 14-15.  The Lakers return home for the final homestand at the end of the month to face Minnesota State- Mankato (Feb. 28-March 1).
