Lakers split singles match again, suffer another 5-4 loss

SAULT STE. MARIE - Winning only one of three doubles matches again proved costly for the Lake Superior State men's tennis team, which suffered its second straight 5-4 loss on its home court. Grand Valley State claimed the one-point decision during Sunday's match at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center.

LSSU's Grant Link and Francis Nadeau topped off a perfect weekend with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Link, playing in the third spot, garnered a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win to improve to 11-7 in singles. Nadeau upped his record to 16-2 for the season.

Pedro Nunes won 6-4, 7-6 to improve to 9-7 at No. 1 singles and 10-8 overall.

The Lakers (9-9 overall, 2-3 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) travel to Northwood on March 29. Grand Valley State, which is ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region, is 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC.
