Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State hit an impressive
11-of-25 from three-point range, but couldn't overcome a
season-high 22 turnovers during Saturday's 59-54 women's basketball
loss to Hillsdale.
The Chargers (10-4 overall, 6-4 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) out-scored LSSU 21-11 in points off
turnovers.
Lake Superior State (7-7 overall, 3-7 GLIAC) trailed 29-28 at
halftime despite making 6-of-13 three-point attempts. The Lakers'
44 percent shooting from behind the arc for the game was a season
high.
Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards, who led LSSU with 14 points and
four assists, made 4-of-8 three-point attempts during the game.
Five additional Lakers also hit triples.
Hillsdale scored the first eight points of the second half to
build a 37-28 lead. LSSU came back to lead 40-37 with 11:40
remaining. The game was tied, 48-48, with 4:54 to go.
The Chargers made 9-of-9 free throws during the final 4:35,
while LSSU committed three turnovers and was 2-for-6 from the
field. Hillsdale's Morgan Blair made two free throws for a 55-48
Charger lead with 1:45 remaining. LSSU's Kelsey Ance answered by
converting a three-point play. After a Hillsdale miss, a charging
call on a non-shooter thwarted the Lakers' comeback efforts.
LSSU shot 38.8 percent from the field and made 5-of-5 free
throws. The Lakers out-rebounded Hillsdale, 31-28.
Blair led Hillsdale with 17 points, followed by Megan Fogt with
16 points and six rebounds. The Chargers shot 40 percent from the
field, including 4-of-10 from three-point range, and made 19-of-22
free throws.
The Lakers head to Grand Valley State on Thursday.
