Box Score BIG RAPIDS - After trailing by seven points at halftime, Ferris
State held Lake Superior State to eight second-half field goals to
overtake the Laker women's basketball team 62-55 Saturday.
The Bulldogs (8-7 overall, 6-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) outscored LSSU 14-4 at the free-throw line and
13-1 in points off turnovers during the second half.
Ferris State opened the second half with a 7-1 run, cutting
LSSU's lead to 32-31 with 16:04 remaining. The Bulldogs led by
seven, 42-35, with 11:16 left and never trailed the rest of the way
despite the Lakers cutting it to one, 56-55, with 1:12 to go.
Junior center April LaCross made a career-high five
three-pointers and scored a career-high tying 21 points to lead the
Lakers (7-9 overall, 3-9 GLIAC). Sophomore Mackenzie Edwards
followed with nine points, while freshman Natalie Peterson scored
seven and had a team-high six rebounds.
The Lakers shot 40 percent from the field for the game,
including 7-of-26 from three-point range, and made 4-of-7 free
throws.
Katie Mavis scored 13 points and Destiney Robinson added 12 to
lead four FSU double-figure scorers. Christina Branch and Hannah
Hoffman totaled seven rebounds each as the Bulldogs held a 35-33
rebounding edge. Ferris State shot 38.9 percent from the field,
including 2-of-14 from behind the arc, and made 18-of-19 free
throws.
LSSU committed 18 turnovers to FSU's 14.
The Lakers play Jan. 19 at Northern Michigan.
