Box Score MARQUETTE - A Northern Michigan women's basketball team prone to
second-half domination overtook Lake Superior State during the
second half of Thursday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference game and won, 69-64.
LSSU (7-10 overall, 3-10 GLIAC) led 32-26 at halftime and hung
onto the lead until the 12:29 mark of the second half. A 10-0
Wildcat run midway through the second half spoiled the Lakers'
second straight upset at the Berry Events Center.
Northern Michigan, winners of four straight games, has been
behind or tied at halftime during five of its 11 wins this
season.
Senior Kandace Crittendon led LSSU with a season-high 20 points.
Tamara Novic came off the bench and scored 11 points, and starters
Megan Manninen and Natalie Peterson added 10 each. Peterson scored
nine first-half points for the Lakers.
The Lakers shot a season-high 56.3 percent from the field. They
were 1-for-1 from three-point range and 9-of-13 at the free-throw
line. Both teams totaled 11 turnovers.
NMU's Alyssa Colla, who averages 19.5 points per game, led all
scorers with 33 points. Lauren Gruber added 13 points. The Wildcats
(11-6 overall, 9-4 GLIAC) shot 47.1 percent from the field,
including 9-of-21 from three-point range, and made 12-of-15 free
throws. They out-rebounded LSSU, 29-20.
Lake Superior State plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at Michigan Tech.
The Huskies currently lead the GLIAC North Division standings by
two games.
