HOUGHTON - Fifteenth-ranked Michigan Tech had too many weapons
for the Lake Superior State women's basketball team, which lost
74-61 to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North
Division leaders Saturday at the MTU Student Activity Center.
LSSU (7-11 overall, 3-11 GLIAC) played a fairly even game
against MTU (17-1 overall, 13-1 GLIAC) throughout most of the first
half and through the first four minutes of the second half. The
Lakers led 29-23 with seven minutes remaining in the first half,
but fell behind 36-31 by halftime. Michigan Tech extended a
five-point lead to 10 points during a four-minute stretch midway
through the second half and controlled the rest of the game.
The Huskies shot a blistering 58.3 percent from the field during
the second half.
Kandace Crittendon totaled 16 points and six rebounds to lead
LSSU. Kelsey Ance followed with 15 points, including 10 during the
second half. Mackenzie Edwards was scoreless, but also had six
rebounds.
LSSU shot 41.5 percent from the field for the game, including
6-of-16 from three-point range, and made 11-of-16 free throws. The
Lakers out-rebounded the Huskies, 33-27.
Danielle Blake totaled 19 points and nine rebounds to lead four
double-figure scorers for Michigan Tech. Jillian Ritche was 4-of-6
from three-point range and finished with 12 points. MTU shot 53.1
percent from the field for the game, including 4-of-7 from
three-point range, and made 18-of-23 free throws.
After playing four straight road games, the Lakers return home
Monday to host Northwood at 5:30 p.m. Both teams will be playing
their third game in five days.
