Lakers roll 67-46 over Walsh, Hettinga captures 150th victory at LSSU

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Lake Superior State men's basketball coach Steve Hettinga earned his 150th career win as the head coach of the Laker men's basketball team on Saturday with a 67-46 victory on the road against the Walsh Cavaliers.

Hettinga, already the winningest men's coach in the history of the program, is now four wins shy of tying LSSU Director of Athletics Kris Dunbar's all-time LSSU basketball coaching victories record of 154. Dunbar compiled a career record of 154-72 during an eight-year stint as the head coach of the women's basketball team.

The Lakers (7-1, 4-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 14-4 run to open the game. A 10-3 run to close the half put the Lakers up 31-17 at the break.

Devin Daly captured his fifth-straight game with a double-double with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds. In 37 minutes of action, Daly hit 10-of-19 shots from the field and was 4-4 from the free throw line.

Akaemji Williams complimented Daly nicely with 19 points and also dished out six assists.

The defense for the Lakers held the Cavaliers (4-3, 3-1 GLIAC) to a season-low 23.5 percent (21-51) shooting from the field. The Cavaliers were also limited to a season-low five three pointers on 27 attempts (18.5 percent) from three-point range.

46 points is also a season-low for the Cavaliers.

Jesse Hardin Jr., the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week was held to just 10 points for Walsh.

Trey Fletcher led Cavaliers scorers with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field.

The Lakers will host Algoma on Dec. 17 before closing out 2015 portion of the season with a Dec. 19 home game against Silver Lake.
