Box Score HILLSDALE - Hillsdale relied on timely offensive rebounds to
decide what was otherwise a turnover-plagued women's basketball
game Saturday.
The Chargers (15-6 overall, 11-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference) rallied back from a 10-point deficit to beat
Lake Superior State 60-57. They took their first lead of the game,
58-57, with 2:17 remaining in regulation and held the Lakers at bay
during the final minute by grabbing two crucial offensive
rebounds.
Lake Superior State (7-14 overall, 3-14 GLIAC) committed seven
of its 16 turnovers during the final 10 minutes of the game as a
53-43 lead slipped away.
April LaCross was 3-for-4 from behind the arc and led LSSU with
18 points. Stephanie Fisher followed with 12 points. Tamara Novic
led Laker rebounders with seven, and LaCross followed with six.
Megan Manninen contributed five assists.
LaCross scored 11 first-half points as LSSU built a 38-30
halftime lead.
LSSU shot 36.7 percent from the field, including 6-of-21 from
three-point range, and made 7-of-13 free throws.
Morgan Blair scored 13 points, and Madison Berry and Allie
Dittmer added 10 each for Hillsdale. Dittmer also totaled 12
rebounds and the Chargers held a 41-37 rebounding edge. LSSU held
Hillsdale scoring leader Megan Fogt to six points.
Hillsdale shot 41.2 percent from the field, including 4-of-15
from three-point range, and made 14-of-25 free throws.
After playing six of seven games on the road during a three-week
period, the Lakers return home to host a four-game homestand
starting with Grand Valley State at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 12.
