Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio - Following their first loss in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Lake Superior State men's basketball righted the ship with a 76-63 victory at Tiffin on Saturday afternoon.
Devin Daly collected his ninth double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead all players in both statistical categories. Daly, who connected on 9-of-17 shots from the floor also chipped in a pair of steals and a block on the defensive end.
Carson Manger and Akaemji Williams rounded out Lakers (12-2, 7-1 GLIAC) starters to reach double digits in scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Williams, the GLIAC leader in steals per game with 2.9, made three steals, collected six rebounds and added five assists.
Both teams traded baskets and leads that were never greater than four points through much of the early first half with the Dragons (6-9, 2-6 GLIAC) holding a 16-15 lead with 11:02 remaining.
The Lakers responded with a layup by Michael Smutny, assisted by Jake Blake, before five consecutive points by Daly put LSSU up for good.
The first half lead for the Lakers reached 13 points after Williams hit a three point shot with 3:08 remaining.
Tiffin responded with a 7-to-1 lead to close out the half but the Lakers had found solid footing and took a 34-27 lead into the break.
Daly opened the second half with a made jumper and after Manger hit one-of-two free throws, Jordan Dasuqi gave the Lakers another 13-point lead with a timely three, assisted by Williams.
Daly scored 13 points during the second half while Manger connected on 3-of-5 three pointers for 10-of-his-12 points.
Josh Goldschmidt scored 11 points off the bench for the third time in his last four games, providing a spark with his sure-shooting stroke.
Blake gave the Lakers 25 minutes of action off the bench and scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Chrisean Mardsen scored 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 made free throws to lead the Dragons in scoring. Mardsen also collected seven rebounds.
Alex Brown produced a double-double for Tiffin with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lakers will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Saginaw Valley on Thursday at 8 p.m. before tipping off at 3 p.m. in Hillsdale on Saturday.
