Box Score ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State women's basketball team, currently contending for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division title, jumped out to a 42-17 lead in the first half of Thursday's against Lake Superior State. The Lakers of GVSU shot 46.4 percent from the field and forced LSSU into 23 turnovers throughout the game.
The Lakers (5-19, 4-14 GLIAC) were led by Mackenzie Edwards with 23 points in the loss. Edwards shot 8-of-17 from the field and 5-for-7 from behind the three point line. The junior guard from Gaylord, Mich., also recorded six rebounds and a blocked shot.
Kayla Dawson led all scorers with 26 points and also notched five steals for GVSU (18-6, 13-5 GLIAC), which moved into a tie for second place in the GLIAC North Division with Saginaw Valley State. The Cardinals fell to Northern Michigan on Thursday night.
LSSU was limited to 34.1 percent from the floor and made a total of 15 shots from the field and seven free throws in the game.
Rachel Novotny was the only other LSSU player to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points.
Janie Langs joined Dawson with double digits as a starter for GVSU with 11 points. Off the bench, Lindsay Baker scored 12 points and Taylor Parmley added 11 points. GVSU's bench outscored LSSU 23-1.
LSSU will next travel to face Ferris State at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
