Lake Superior State Men's Tennis Rolls Past Adrian For Second Straight Win

ADRIAN, Mich. - For the second time in as many days, the Lake Superior State University men's tennis was victorious as the Lakers rolled to a 9-0 non-league road win at Adrian on Sunday (Sept. 24) in competition held at AC's Craft Tennis Complex Adrian, Mich.

The Lakers were victorious in all three doubles positions to build a 3-0 lead in the match heading into singles action and then added wins in the six singles flights to register the decisive victory and extend their present winning streak to two straight while improving to 2-1 on the season.

In doubles, senior Jake Prime and junior Luis Valderrama combined to prevail 8-1 at the number one flight.  Senior Ieuan Lister and freshman Diego Penz teammed up at two slot to win 8-3 over their Adrian opponents while the third flight also featured an 8-3 score with sophomore Joe Gilman and freshman Seth Pinnoo coming out on top.

Lake Superior State extended its lead to 4-0 after Jake Prime won a one-sided straight sets 6-0, 6-0 decision at the top singles position.  Luis Valderrama earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision in number two singles action and Joe Gilman finished off his Bulldog foe, winning 6-1, 6-2 at the three spot.  In four singles action, Ieuan Lister posted a 7-5, 7-6(3) victory.

The Lakers' Diego Penz was successful in holding on to notch a 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 triumph at the fifth singles flight and Lake State completed the match sweep when Seth Pinnoo turned in a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

"It was a good way to finish off a great weekend for the guys," said LSSU head coach Luke Ogren.  "I'm really impressed with how we are playing so early in the year.  We were able to find a few more things today that we can work on to keep improving as well.

"Hopefully we can improve in those areas and capitalize on an opportunity to have a very good season," Ogren added.

Lake Superior State, which registered a 5-4 non-conference road win over Aquinas this last Saturday (Sept. 23), is now idle until the 2018 spring season.
