SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State men's tennis team hosted Davenport University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon falling, 6-3, inside the Arbuckle Student Activities Center
With the loss, the Lakers slip to 6-7 overall on the season with a 1-4 mark in league play. The Panthers move to 10-5, 4-1.
In doubles play, No.1 singles pairing, Ieuan Lister and Diego Penz lost (8-4), No.2 doubles, Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama won (8-3), while No.3 doubles, Joe Gilman and Pete Summers lost a close battle (8-6).
Entering singles play down 2-1, Sophomore No.1 singles Gilman won in straight sets, (6-0, 6-4). Prime at No.2 singles won in straight sets as well (6-3,6-2). Valderrama at No.3 singles lost a close three set match (6-3,4-6, 6-3).
At the No. 4 spot, Lister lost (7-6(4), 6-3). Penz lost at No. 5 singles (7-6(6), 7-5). Finishing the lineup was Summers at No. 6, he lost (6-0,6-2).
Lake State will wrap up senior weekend tomorrow against Purdue Northwest University. Match starts at 11 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
