HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (0-3) fell on the road to the Hillsdale Chargers (2-1) by a final score of 61-53 on Wednesday.
Both teams battled early with the Lakers getting a pair of baskets from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) and Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.), the first points of their eventual 16 and 14 on the night. Both teams continued to trade blows, but a pair of threes from Golden and CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) helped end the opening quarter with an 8-0 Laker run to have LSSU ahead 22-19.
The Lakers carried their momentum into the start of the second quarter with two more buckets from Golden and a three from Malia Thelen (Portland, Mich.) to go up 29-21.However, Hillsdale was able to end the half with a 12-0 run of their own to take the lead going into the break.
Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio) and Golden let it fly to start the second half to put the Lakers back in front. Both teams continued to go back and forth for the remainder of the quarter with LSSU ahead 44-43 going into the fourth quarter. However, the Chargers were able to pull ahead in the final frame and survive 61-53.
Despite the loss, Golden came away with a 16-point performance while Bradford notched a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double.
The Lakers return to action when they face Malone on Friday, Nov. 15 with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
