Laker Women's Basketball Complete the Comeback at Walsh

Lakers secure first win of Grace Howrigon era behind 25 points from Grace Bradford and 21 from Breah Golden

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (1-5) complete the comeback to defeat the Walsh Cavaliers (3-2) by a margin of 66-63 to secure their first win of the season and the first of the Grace Howrigon era.

Both teams battled early as a three from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) had the Lakers within two, but the Cavaliers were able to pull ahead, ending the quarter with a 7-0 run to claim a 22-13 advantage after ten minutes of action.

The Lakers struck back early in the second quarter with a 5-0 scoring spurt that featured a quick steal and score from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.). The Lakers would then get a three from Taylor Clarey (Rochester, Minn.) to get back to within three, but the Cavaliers once again pushed ahead, this time with a 13-0 run to lead by 16. However, LSSU responded by closing out the half with a 9-0 run of their own that featured a three from Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) to take some momentum into the halftime break.

Both teams went back and forth throughout the third quarter with Golden and Bradford able to score in the paint, and the Lakers found themselves trailing only by five going into the fourth quarter, down 54-49.

The Lakers would then leave no doubt in the final ten minutes of action, opening the quarter with a 15-2 run behind nine points from Bradford to go up 63-56. Walsh was able to close back within one, but Golden and CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) were able to close out the game at the free throw line to secure the Lakers' first win of the season.

Bradford led all players with 25 points to go along with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and a pair of steals. Golden also eclipsed the 20-point mark with 21 of her own, and Wilder led all players in rebounding with 9.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to opening GLIAC play when they travel to face the Ferris State Bulldogs on Tuesday, Dec. 3 with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
