BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (1-6, 0-1 GLIAC) fell to the No. 23 Ferris State (FSU) Bulldogs (6-2, 1-0 GLIAC) by a final score of 106-63 on Tuesday.
Both teams battled early with baskets from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) and Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) putting the Lakers ahead, and Golden would find Bradford again on the fast break to have LSSU leading 15-11. The Bulldogs fought back with a 10-0 run, but another jumper from Bradford and a three from Golden had the Lakers within 4 after a fast-paced first quarter. However, despite a pair of threes from Golden and CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.), FSU was able to extend their lead in the second.Â
Ferris State continued to push in the second half, but the Lakers kept fighting with buckets in the paint from Bradford and Hacker. Then, in the fourth quarter, Taylor Clarey (Rochester, Minn.) drilled a three to start building some momentum in favor of LSSU, and Hacker tacked on back-to-back threes of her own. Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio) and Clarey continued to let it fly from beyond the arc, but it would not be enough as the Bulldogs closed out the win.
Despite the loss, Bradford led all players in both scoring (20) and rebounding (8) while Hacker (13) and Golden (11) also finished with double-digit points.Â
The Lakers return to action on Thursday, Dec. 5 when they travel to face GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Central Time.
