Laker Men's Tennis Face Setback at Wayne State

Box Score

DETROIT, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's tennis team (5-4, 1-1 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Wayne State Warriors (9-8, 1-1 GLIAC) on Friday.

The Warriors were able to take the early advantage with wins on all three doubles courts, but the Lakers would make them earn it, especially in the No. 2 doubles match in which the duo of Driss Sedrati (Casablanca, Morocco) and Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat, Spain) battled their way to a very competitive 4-6 decision against the No. 12 ranked doubles team in the nation in Wayne State's Dom Spicer and Luke Laws.

Raul Velasco Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) secured the lone victory on the day for the Lakers in the No. 5 singles match, winning by a score of 6-4, 6-4. However, LSSU was also able to put together strong showings in multiple other matches as well. Fraile claimed the opening set in the No. 4 singles match before ultimately falling in a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 matchup, and Stefan Andrei (Galati, Romania) pushed the No. 12 ranked player in the nation in Wayne State's Cedric Drenth to the brink after forcing a third set of his own.

The Lakers will look to bounce back when they host the Purdue Northwest Pride on Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m.
