Laker Men's Basketball Tame the Panthers 74-58

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The No. 10 Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (13-2, 4-1 GLIAC) came away with a decisive 74-58 victory over the visiting Panthers of Davenport (5-8, 1-4 GLIAC) on Thursday.

Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) opened up the scoring with a mid range jumper, and Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) would then find Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) inside for the jam as the Lakers claimed the early advantage. However, the Panthers kept fighting, grinding their way back to take a three-point lead. Edmondson would then hit from distance to knot up the score as both teams continued to battle throughout the opening half, but the Lakers were able to take control late, closing out the half with a 10-2 run that featured a late steal and a put back in the final seconds by Tyler Jamison (Port Huron, Mich.) to put LSSU ahead 34-23 at the break.

Perkins got to work early in the second half, finding his way to the rim with ease to open the frame with a 10-3 Laker run. LSSU would then follow that up with another run of 7-0 to extend the lead to 21 points after Nino-Carter Smith (Warren, Mich.) quickly pushed the ball ahead to a streaking Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) on the fast break. Davenport would keep fighting, but the Lakers were able to hold them at bay, and after a three from Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) gave his team their largest lead of the night, they would take their foot off the accelerator and wind the clock down to secure their sixth-consecutive win.

Harakow led all scorers with a career-high 18-points off the bench. Meanwhile, Perkins and Edmondson also finished in double figures with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Soper secured a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host Grand Valley State with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
