Laker Women's Basketball Complete Second Half Comeback Against Panthers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (5-8, 2-3 GLIAC) used a second half surge to come back and take down the Davenport Panthers (3-10, 1-4 GLIAC) by a final score of 60-58 on Thursday night.

The Panthers were able to jump out to an early 12-3 advantage, but the Lakers were able to weather the storm, pulling back to within four after a three-pointer from CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.). Hacker would then find Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) under the basket at the end of the quarter as they trailed 16-11.

Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio) sparked the offense to start the second quarter with a three ball to kick start a 7-0 run to take the lead. Both teams would then go back and forth, exchanging the lead five more times, but Davenport managed to close out the half with a 9-0 run to take a 31-23 lead into the break.

The Panthers extended their lead to double-digits to start the second half, but LSSU kept fighting before ending the quarter with a three from Hacker and a late jumper from Breah Golden to pull back within three going into the final frame.

The Lakers continued to build momentum in the fourth quarter as Maddie Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) picked off a pass before laying the ball off to Hacker for the fast break layup, and the Lakers soon found themselves leading by six after a 13-2 run. Then, they would slow down the pace and run down the clock to hold on to the win.

Hacker led all players in scoring with 16 points while G. Bradford (15) and Golden (11) also found themselves in double-figures.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to Saturday, Jan. 11 when they host No. 1 Grand Valley State with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
