Laker Hockey alumnus Steve Davies, honored with the 2024 Kenneth J. Shouldice Award and inducted with his teammates into the LSSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003, has named Lake Superior State University Hockey in his estate plans, providing a future gift valued at $100,000.
 
"The Lake Superior State hockey program has had a profound impact on my life," said Davies. "While being a Laker taught me the importance of team work and how to compete at the highest level, the academic program laid the groundwork for a successful career in business. 
 
Davies went on to comment, "We've all seen how the D1 programs in hockey have grown and along with it the cost of being competitive continues to grow with it. I encourage all other past Lakers to look at what this program has meant to them and do whatever they can to ensure that we continue to build on this great hockey tradition with the goal of bringing home more National Championships."
 
In addition to naming Lake State Hockey as a beneficiary in his estate, Davies was a pioneer in launching the meal sponsor program for Laker Hockey, consistently donating to the program each season. Davies was also instrumental in the 2020 renovation of the Laker Hockey Locker Room.

"His gift reflects the spirit of giving back that defines Laker Hockey and directly supports our mission to enhance the student-athlete experience. As the landscape of collegiate hockey continues to evolve, investments like Steve's will ensure that Lake State remains a difference maker in developing champions both on and off the ice."
