Karter Richards scored a career-high 21 points, connecting on eight of his 10 shots, while knocking down all three triples, but Lake Superior State dropped an overtime result at Davenport, 99-94 Saturday afternoon.
The redshirt freshman has played well for head coach
Steve Hettinga so far this season, shooting 62.1% from the field. He's seen his minutes grow in the past several weeks as he's shot efficiently and played well on defense. But Richards was entrusted with the basketball on Saturday and went off, while sophomore
Harrison Sorrelle also put up a monster line. He scored 24 points with four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals for LSSU (3-5, 0-2 GLIAC).
Richards gave the Lakers a pair of 13 point leads with about eight minutes to go in the second half. He hit a three, then scored a layup to give the Lakers the biggest advantage either team had in the contest.
Though DU (6-2, 2-0 GLIAC) clawed back into the contest, Sorrelle continued to drive the Lakers forward, scoring seven points in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
The Panthers took the lead early in overtime and held on to secure the victory.
The Lakers got 11 points and six assists from
Nino Carter-Smith.
Tyler Jamison scored 10 with three rebounds and four steals.
Lake Superior State returns to play on Monday, December 15th against Rochester Christian at 2:00 PM at the Bud Cooper Gym. Before that game, the Laker Women's Basketball team faces Walsh at noon. Buy your tickets online or at the Norris Center box office.
