Laker Women's Basketball Face Setback Against Roosevelt

Grace Bradford records 29-point, 16-rebound double-double in loss

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (5-15, 2-10 GLIAC) fell to the Roosevelt Lakers (6-11, 4-7 GLIAC) by a final score of 78-65 on Saturday despite a 29-point, 16-rebound performance from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.).

Roosevelt managed to strike first, but CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) tied up the score with a three. LSSU would then pull ahead with a 9-0 run that was capped off with a three from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.), but Roosevelt fought back to tie the game at 12-12. Golden would then sink a pair of baskets to put her team ahead 20-14 after the first ten minutes of action.

Both teams battled throughout the second quarter, including nine points from Bradford, but Roosevelt was able to crawl their way back to have the contest all knotted up at 33-33 going into the halftime break.

Roosevelt was able to pull ahead in the third quarter, claiming a double-digit lead. LSSU continued to battle, getting back to within six with a bucket inside by Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.), but RU managed to fend off the LSSU attack to hold on to secure the win.

Bradford led all players in scoring and rebounding with her 29-point, 16-rebound double-double. Meanwhile, Wilder and Golden also finished in double-digit scoring with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lakers return to action on Thursday, Feb. 6 when they travel to face Grand Valley State with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
