SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (5-21, 2-16 GLIAC) fell to the Purdue Northwest Pride (6-20, 3-15 GLIAC) by a final score of 77-62 on Saturday.
Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) started the game hot, hitting the first three shots for the Lakers, and she would then find Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) for a three to put her team ahead 12-5. However, despite CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) stealing the ball away and getting all the way to the rim in transition, the Pride were able to crawl back to trim the lead to one after the opening ten minutes.Â
Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio) started off the second quarter with a three to help LSSU extend their lead back out to seven, but despite another three from Golden, Purdue Northwest was able to go on a run to end the half and claim a 35-27 advantage at the break.
Hacker drilled a pair of threes early in the third quarter as the Lakers kept fighting, and Bradford was able to get to the charity stripe to get back within one. However, the Pride were able to respond to push back ahead. The Lakers continued to battle with multiple fourth quarter threes from Stacy, but Purdue Northwest managed to hold on to secure the victory.
Golden led all players in scoring with 18 points on the day while Hacker and Bradford also finished in double figures with 13 points each with Bradford also securing 12 rebounds for the double-double.
The Lakers return to action on Thursday, Feb. 27 when they travel to face the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
