UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's basketball team (5-22, 2-17 GLIAC) fell to the Saginaw Valley State (SVSU) Cardinals (14-13, 8-11 GLIAC) by a final score of 75-56 on Thursday.
The Cardinals got on the board first, but the Lakers fought back with a pair of baskets from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) and a Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) and-one. Both teams continued to battle in the second quarter with buckets from Golden and Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.), and both Taylor Clarey (Rochester, Minn.) and Golden hit from beyond the arc to draw back within one. However, SVSU managed to take a six-point advantage into the break.
Bradford would come out swinging to start the second half with the first four Laker baskets. However, despite multiple threes from Golden, the Cardinals managed to pull ahead and close out the victory.
Golden led all players in scoring with 22 points on the night. Meanwhile, Bradford notched 17 points of her own while also securing 9 rebounds.
The Lakers return to action on Saturday, March 1 when they travel to face the Wayne State Warriors with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
