BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers (12-20-2, 10-15-1 CCHA) fell to the Bowling Green (BGSU) Falcons (16-13-4, 12-10-4 CCHA) by a final score of 5-3 on Saturday.
Both teams battled through a scoreless opening period of action, but midway through the second, Ben Wozney got the Falcons on the board first. Ben Doran would then double up the score at the 17:53 mark to take a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
Less than five minutes into the third period, Brody Waters was able to tack on another for the Falcons, taking advantage of a power play opportunity. The Falcons were able to tack on two more goals midway through the third period, but then, when all seemed bleak, Jacob Conrad (Green Bay, Wis.) put the Lakers on the board with some help from Johnny Druskins (Plymouth, Mich.) and Jordan Venegoni (Livonia, Mich.). William Ahlrik (Tidaholm, Sweden) and Luke Levandowski (Rosemount, Minn.) would then both score within 15 seconds of one another to quickly trim the lead back to within one and fully swing the momentum in favor of LSSU. However, BGSU was able to settle in and hold on to survive the Lakers' valiant comeback attempt.Â
The Lakers will now turn their attention to the CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs where they will face the top-seeded Minnesota State Mavericks for a best-of-three series in the opening round.
