Box Score 4 HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 34 Lake Superior State men's tennis team (5-2) came away with a successful week on Hilton Head Island, splitting their four matches on the week.
The men's program opened up their week on Monday with a tilt against regional foe, Tiffin, and they got off to a strong start after closing out the doubles points with wins at the top-two spots. However, despite several tightly-contested battles and a win at the No. 2 spot by
Driss Sedrati (Casablanca, Morocco), Tiffin managed to claim five of the six singles matches of the day to steal the victory by a score of 5-2.
On Wednesday, the Lakers bounced back with a dominant 7-0 performance over NAIA Shawnee State to help build momentum going into the rest of the week.
LSSU would then face NCAA DI St. Francis (Pa.) in their next matchup, and they would once again grind out the doubles point, this time with the duo of
Stefan Andrei (Galati, Romania) and
Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat, Spain) coming back to earn a 7-5 win at the No. 2 spot to clinch the doubles point. However, despite forcing three separate third set super-tiebreakers, only Sedrati was able to come out on top during singles play as St. Francis stole the match by a margin of 5-2.
Then on Friday, the Lakers wrapped up with singles play against Morningside after already earning the doubles point a few days prior before the match was postponed due to rain. This time, it would be LSSU that claimed five singles wins as Andrei secured the match for his team at the No. 1 singles position.
The Lakers will now turn their attention to GLIAC play when they travel to face the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday, March 21 with the first serve scheduled for 4 p.m.
