Lake Superior State paid no mind to the frigid temperatures in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on Thursday. The day started nearly 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, but the Lakers got hot, shot well and blew away Roosevelt 98-67.
Omar Suleiman scored 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting, with six makes from three-point range. He was fantastic, hitting several open shots and highly-contested looks with ease. The redshirt sophomore from Canton, MI was at the peak of his powers for Lake State (10-10, 4-7 GLIAC), and Roosevelt (2-16, 1-10 GLIAC) had no answer for his offensive prowess. He hit a three to open the game, and LSSU never trailed or saw the score tied again.
Three more Lakers scored in double-figures.
Harrison Sorrelle scored 16 points,
Karter Richards had 13, and
Nino Carter-Smith scored 12. Carter-Smith hit five of his seven field goals, and stole the ball twice. Lake State had seven steals as a team.
The Lakers also heavily outrebounded the opposition. LSSUÂ grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and put back 11 points, while allowing just six offensive rebounds for two points against. Lake State also rampaged across the paint, outscoring Roosevelt 48-20.
The exterior game was on point, too. LSSU knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game. The team shot over 50% from the field in both halves of basketball, while holding Roosevelt to under 40% in each half, too.
The win was a complete performance.
Don Douglass scored eight points with a handful of slam dunks,
Marcus Watson, Jr. scored nine points, and
Tyler Jamison scored four with eight rebounds and four assists.
Lake Superior State faces Wisconsin Parkside at 3:00 PM on Saturday in the second game of a GLIAC doubleheader. Buy your tickets online or at the Norris Center box office.
