Box Score Grace Bradford's legendary Laker career came to an end with a suitably epic playoff performance. The senior scored 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds with two assists and a pair of steals in an 89-45 loss to #2 Grand Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals Wednesday night. She hit a three-pointer late in the third quarter as well.
Bradford did most of her damage in the second half, scoring 18 points after the break.
Clare Conzelmann scored 10 for Lake State (8-21, 5-15 GLIAC), stealing the ball twice from GVSUÂ (28-1, 19-1 GLIAC) and blocking a shot.
Lara Aguzzi scored the first bucket of the game for LSSU, a three-pointer from
Dara Capaldi, who was coming off of her epic 32 point game against Purdue Northwest on Saturday. Aguzzi went 2-for-3 from deep in the game.
The Lakers forced six steals and blocked three shots against GVSU, showing their aggression and defensive tenacity against one of the nation's best teams. Grand Valley won last year's NCAA Division II National Championship and has looked the favorite to repeat for much of this year. But the Lakers continued to battle throughout and closed out the game shooting over 40% in the third and fourth quarters. GVSU holds its opposition to 35.2% from the field as its season average, the 20th best mark in the nation.
It caps a remarkable run to the tournament for LSSU. The Lakers made up two games in the final two weeks to qualify with a win over PNW on the season's final day. For second year Head Coach
Grace Howrigon, her staff and the team, it begins a promising offseason, with a bright future ahead for Lake State.
