Box Score OXFORD, Ohio – No. 1-ranked Miami defeated Lake Superior
State 6-2 Friday at Steve Cady Arena during the first of four
Central Collegiate Hockey Association cluster games.
After 40 minutes of play the Lakers (2-4-1 overall, 0-3-0
CCHA) trailed, 5-0. At 2:14 of the third period, LSSU senior
forward Chad Nehring (2-0--2) scored a power-play goal from senior
forward Rick Schofield (3-6--9) and sophomore forward Domenic
Monardo (3-4--7). The goal occurred while Miami standout Carter
Camper was serving a five-minute major penalty for kneeing.
LSSU notched its final goal of the night at 9:32 of the third
period. Freshman forward Colin Campbell (2-2--2) netted the goal
from classmates Kyle Jean (0-3--3) and Zach Sternberg (0-1-1). It
was Sternberg's first point as a Laker.
Miami's Alden Hirschfeld (3-4--7) scored the Redhawks'
game-winning goal at 11:34 of the second period. Six different
Miami players netted goals, and Andy Miele led the RedHawks
(5-1-1 overall, 3-0-0 CCHA) with one goal and three
assists.
LSSU goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 15 saves during the
contest. The Redhawks' Cody Reichard stopped a total of
16.
LSSU was 1-for-6 on the power-play, while Miami was held to
0-for-2. The RedHawks have outscored their opponents 19-3 in their
last three games.
The Lakers and Redhawks will be back in action at 7:05 p.m.
Saturday in Oxford, Ohio.
