Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State senior guard Micah Hudson
hit two timely three-pointers to help the Lakers survive a
second-half comeback by Cedarville University during Thursday's
non-conference men's basketball game at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Cedarville (8-8), which trailed by 11 points at halftime, took a
slim lead with less than five minutes remaining. Hudson answered
with three-pointers at 3:35 and 3:03, and LSSU (8-3) hung on to win
77-73.
Hudson led LSSU with 16 points and three assists. Kyle Hunt was
10-of-13 at the free-throw line and totaled 14 points, seven
rebounds and five assists. Derek Billing and Khalid Wells scored 10
points each, and Derek Kinney added nine.
Austin Foote scored 17 points to lead four double-figure scorers
for Cedarville.
LSSU shot 51.9 percent from the field while building a 38-27
lead during the first half. The Lakers' shooting percentage
plummeted to 30.8 percent (8-of-26) during the second half,
enabling Cedarville to chip away at the lead.
Hudson's back-to-back triples gave LSSU a 68-66 advantage.
Cedarville's Brian Grant made two free throws to tie it, 68-68.
Offensive rebounds by Kinney and Justin Williams led to free-throw
opportunities for Lake Superior State. Hunt was 1-for-2 and Kinney
sank both free throws for a 71-68 LSSU lead with 1:45 remaining.
Williams scored on a put-back to put the Lakers
ahead 73-70 with 1:05 to go.
Cedarville was 1-for-6 from the field, making only an
uncontested three-pointer at the buzzer, during the final 40
seconds.
LSSU shot 41.5 percent from the field for the game, including
7-of-20 from three-point range. The Lakers made 26-of-35 free
throws and out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets, 43-34. Billing also
led in rebounds with seven, and Kinney followed with six.
Cedarville shot 40.9 percent from the field, including 9-of-30
from behind the arc, and made 10-of-18 free throws.
LSSU resumes Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
action Jan. 6 at Ferris State.
