Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scored five unanswered goals
to come back from a 2-0 deficit and beat Lake Superior State 5-2
Saturday at Value City Arena.
The Lakers are 10-13-9 overall, 8-10-9-5 Central Collegiate
Hockey Association and have 37 points for eighth place in the CCHA,
while OSU 15-15-3 overall, 10-13-3-2 CCHA has 35 points with one
week to go in the regular season. LSSU plays host to Miami during
its final regular-season series.
The Lakers took a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the
first period. Freshman forward Colin Campbell (3-1—4) netted
the Lakers' first goal, a power-play goal, at the 31-second mark of
the first period. Campbell's goal was assisted by junior
forward Fred Cassiani (3-3—6) and freshman forward Kyle Jean
(1-11—12).
At 1:07 of the first period, the Laker Rick Schofield
(13-16--29) made it 2-0 with a goal assisted by senior forward Will
Acton (8-13—21) and sophomore forward Domenic Monardo
(12-14—26).
Corey Toy brought Ohio State within one goal, 2-1, at 8:27 of
the first period.
Ohio State blanked the Lakers in the second and third periods,
scoring four unanswered goals. Sergio Somma scored a power-play
goal, and Danny Dries netted an even-strength goal for the Buckeyes
in the second period.
OSU's Chris Crane notched a power-play goal at 10:17 of the
third period. Peter Boyd scored an empty-net goal at 14:57.
LSSU freshman goaltender Kevin Kapalka stopped 43 shots, while
Cal Heeter stopped 25 shots in 56:30 of play. Buckeye Dustin
Carlson played the first 3:30 of the game and allowed two goals on
three shots.
The Lakers were 1-for-4 on the power-play, while Ohio State was
2-for-3.
