Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE - Northwood made 11-of-20 three-point attempts
and shot a season-high 57.7 percent from the field to beat the
Lake Superior State men's basketball team 88-78 Saturday at Bud
Cooper Gymnasium.
The Timberwolves (10-16 overall, 7-10 Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and LSSU (14-10 overall, 8-9
GLIAC) both scored at a torrid pace during the first
half. The Lakers led 47-45 at halftime as both teams shot 63
percent from the field.
Northwood opened the second half with a 14-3 run and took
control of the game. Center Bobby Gibson was 6-of-7 from the
field and scored 15 points to lead five NU players in double
figures. Four different NU players made at least two
three-pointers.
Micah Hudson scored 19 points to lead Lake Superior State, which
slid from third to fourth place in the GLIAC North Division
standings. Derek Billing followed with 16 points and a season-high
10 rebounds. Andrew Charlesworth scored 14 points, and Khalid Wells
added 13. Justin Williams and Derek Kinney led the Lakers in
rebounds with seven each.
LSSU, playing in its final home game of the 2010-11
season, shot 55.4 percent from the field, including 11-of-18
from three-point range. The Lakers made 5-of-17 free throws.
Northwood was 17-of-23 at the free-throw line and out-rebounded
LSSU, 31-29.
The Lakers travel to Wayne State on Thursday, Feb. 24.
