Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State opened the
first round Central Collegiate Hockey Association playoff action
Friday against Ohio State with a 4-0 victory and took a one-game
lead in the best-of-three series.
LSSU freshman netminder Kevin Kapalka recorded a season-high 48
saves during his fourth shutout of 2010-11. He beat his record of
36 saves set during the Dec. 3 game against Bowling Green in 65
minutes of play.
The Lakers opened their scoring with a rebound goal from
freshman forward Dan Radke (3-4—7), assisted by sophomore
defenseman Zach Trotman (6-13—19) and forward Domenic Monardo
(12-15—27).
After a scoreless second period, LSSU freshman forward Kellan
Lain (3-2—5) notched the Lakers' second goal from
freshman forward Colin Campbell (3-3—6) at 9:44 of the third.
He beat OSU goalie Cal Heeter with a quick wrister from the
point.
LSSU took a 3-0 lead with an empty-net goal from senior forward
Rick Schofield (15-16—31. Schofield's goal was his
100th career point as a Laker. Only one other Laker,
Troy Schwab ('09), has accomplished that feat during the past
decade.
Sophomore forward Nick McParland (6-4—10) recorded another
empty-net goal at 19:20 of the third period. Campbell notched his
second assist for the night on McParland's goal.
Heeter made 36 saves for OSU. The Lakers were 0-for-3 on the
power-play and held OSU to 0-for-4.
The Lakers will face OSU tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
