UND sports information reported that the Irish won their first series opener of the season on home ice, improving to 1-3.

"It's a win on Friday night. I'll take it. We wore the golds tonight to break the routine," UND coach Jeff Jackson said. "Lake Superior is a good team, a tough team to play against. They have good goaltending and they bend, but don't break. They picked it up in the third period and put the pressure on us. It was a close game, a tough game."

The Lakers and Irish will be back in action Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
