Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Lake Superior State held the lead from start
to finish to win 3-2 over No. 15 Union Saturday. The Lakers
improved to 4-0-0 overall heading into an off weekend.
LSSU, which has recorded back-to-back sweeps -- one at home and
one on the road -- plays its next game Oct. 29 against
Laurentian.
LSSU scored first and never looked back. Sophomore defensman
Eric Drapluk (1-0--1) opened the scoring at 19:22 of the first
period on assists from senior forward Dan Radke (0-3--3) and junior
forward Stephen Perfetto (1-4--5). Perfetto picked up his fifth
point for the weekend with his assist on Drapluk's goal.
At 8:23 of the second period, the Lakers took at 2-0 lead with a
goal from sophomore forward Daniel Vernace (1-1--2). Bryce Schmitt
was credited with the lone assist on Vernace's goal. The Dutchmen
(1-2-1 overall) answered with a power-play goal at 11:19 of the
second.
Senior forward Colin Campbell (1-3--4) scored the game-winning
goal at 12:56 of the second from Pete Spratte (0-1--1) and Alex
Globke (1-4--5). At 19:02 of the second periold, Union scored a
power-play goal for the final 3-2 margin.
LSSU was held to 0-for-3 on the power-play, while Union went
2-for-6.
Senior netminder Kevin Kapalka (1-0-0 overall) started his first
game this season and made 46 saves for LSSU. It was his
second-highest save total, just under his career high of 48 set in
2010-11.
Alex Sakellaropoulos played 32:27 for Union and totaled eight
saves. He allowed all three LSSU goals. Dillon Pieri played the
remainder of the game and had only six saves for Union, which
out-shot the Lakers, 48-17.
