Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. - Lake Superior State served Michigan Tech its
first home loss of the season by rallying back from a 2-0 deficit
to win 5-3 Friday in Houghton. The Lakers improved to 6-2-1 overall
and 2-1-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Huskies dropped to 3-7-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the WCHA. They
are 3-1-0 on home ice, while LSSU is 3-1-1 on the road.
The Lakers were down 2-0 at the end of the first period before
scoring three unanswered goals in the second period.
Freshman forward Matt Johnson (2-1--3) started the Lakers'
scoring surge with an unassisted goal at 2:27 of the second. Senior
forward Zach Sternberg (2-4--6) tied the game on a penalty
shot after the Huskies got called for hooking at 5:05 of the
second. The last time LSSU scored on a penalty shot was
Jan. 18, 2013, against Michigan.
Sophomore defenseman Eric Drapluk (4-1--5) gave LSSU a 3-2 lead
at 5:25 of the second with a goal on assists from Johnson and
sophomore forward Bryce Schmitt (1-3--4).
The point streak continued for freshman forward Alex Globke
(6-6--12) and senior forward Dan Radke (1-9--10) stretching to
seven games. Globke tallied LSSU's fourth goal 31 seconds into the
third during a power-play goal. Junior forward Stephen Perfetto
(1-6--7) and Radke had the assists.
Globke's goal was his first game-winning goal of the season.
The Huskies came within one goal of the Lakers by scoring a
5-on-3 power-play goal at 15:52 of the third period. Five different
players contributed one point each for MTU.
LSSU freshman forward Garret Clemment (1-4--5) talled an
empty-net goal at 18:58 of the third from Schmitt and junior
defenseman Kevin Czuczman (3-6--9) giving LSSU a 5-3 lead.
MTU outshot LSSU, 36-25. Senior netminder Kevin Kapalka (3-1-1)
made 33 save for the Lakers while Pheonix Copley (3-6-0) made
20 saves for the Huskies. The Lakers were 1-for-5 and held Michigan
Tech to 1-for-7 on the power-play.
