Box Score ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Rookies Mitch Nardi and Ian Miller scored
their first collegiate goals during Lake Superior State's
first-ever trip to Anchorage, Alaska, and led LSSU to a 3-1 victory
over the Seawolves Friday.
After a scoreless first period, UAA's Blake Tatchell scored a
power-play goal at 7:33 of the second period to give the Seawolves
(7-8-2 overall, 4-7-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) a
brief lead.
Nardi tied it at 8:58, and Zach Sternberg drew the only assist.
Kevin Czuczman scored an unassisted power-play goal at 12:18 for a
2-1 Laker lead, and Miller finished off the scoring with an
unassisted even-strength goal at 17:40.
LSSU goaltender Kevin Kapalka (6-4-1) totaled 28 saves,
including 13 during the third period. UAA
netminder Michael Matyas (2-2-1) had 20 saves. The
Seawolves played over two minutes with an empty net.
LSSU, which was 1-for-4 on the power play, improved to 10-6-1
overall and 6-5-0 in the WCHA. Alaska-Anchorage was 1-for-5.
The teams, which entered the series tied for sixth place in the
WCHA standings, meet again at 11:07 p.m. EST in Anchorage.
