Lakers tally three short-handed goals during 3-0 win at NMU

Box Score

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Lake Superior State Univeristy finished eighth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season standings following Saturday's 3-0 victory at Northern Michigan. The Lakers will host Bowling Green State in the First Round of CCHA Playoffs March 8-10.

The Lakers (16-19-1 overall, 11-16-1-1 CCHA) tallied four short-handed goals during the series split with NMU at the Berry Events Center. All three goals Saturday were short-handed markers.

Sophomore forward Stephen Perfetto (6-7--13) tallied the game-winning goal at 2:37 of the second period. LSSU's second short-handed goal came at 16:18 of the third from junior forward Kellan (8-7--15).

Senior forward Domenic Monardo (19-11--30) scored his 100th-career point on an empty-net short-handed goal. Monardo became only the third Laker since Joe Blaznek '98 to reach the 100-point career scoring milestone.

LSSU finished 3-1 against the Wildcats this season and won the Father Cappo Cup total-goals series, 10-4. The cup returns home after NMU (15-17-4 overall, 9-15-4-1 CCHA) took the cup from the Lakers during the 2011-12 season.

Junior netminder Kevin Murdock (10-11-0) totaled 35 saves during his third shutout of the season. NMU's Jared Coreau made 32 saves for the loss.

LSSU is 3-3 in its last six games heading into the playoffs. Ninth-place BGSU is 2-4 in its last six outings.
