Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. - Lake Superior State Univeristy finished
eighth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association
regular-season standings following Saturday's 3-0 victory at
Northern Michigan. The Lakers will host Bowling Green State in the
First Round of CCHA Playoffs March 8-10.
The Lakers (16-19-1 overall, 11-16-1-1 CCHA) tallied four
short-handed goals during the series split with NMU at the
Berry Events Center. All three goals Saturday were short-handed
markers.
Sophomore forward Stephen Perfetto (6-7--13) tallied the
game-winning goal at 2:37 of the second period. LSSU's second
short-handed goal came at 16:18 of the third from junior forward
Kellan (8-7--15).
Senior forward Domenic Monardo (19-11--30) scored his
100th-career point on an empty-net short-handed goal.
Monardo became only the third Laker since Joe Blaznek
'98 to reach the 100-point career scoring milestone.
LSSU finished 3-1 against the Wildcats this season and won
the Father Cappo Cup total-goals series, 10-4. The cup returns
home after NMU (15-17-4 overall, 9-15-4-1 CCHA) took the
cup from the Lakers during the 2011-12 season.
Junior netminder Kevin Murdock (10-11-0) totaled 35
saves during his third shutout of the season. NMU's Jared
Coreau made 32 saves for the loss.
LSSU is 3-3 in its last six games heading into the playoffs.
Ninth-place BGSU is 2-4 in its last six outings.
