Perfetto notches goal and assist on Lakers' top line

Box Score

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.- Lake Superior State University dropped the first game of the weekend series against Bemidji State by a score of 5-2.

The Lakers (11-9-1, 7-8-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) were led by junior centerman Stephen Perfetto (2-11--13), who scored a goal and picked up an assist while teaming with Alex Globke and Colin Campbell on the Lakers' top line.

The Lakers jumped out to a one-goal lead over the Beavers (6-11-6, 6-7-4 WCHA) after Zach Sternberg (4-7--11) scored 3:50 in to the first period.  Globke (8-12--20) picked up the first of his two assists, with Perfetto getting credit for the second assist.

Bemidji State (3-for-4 on the power play) answered with a pair of power-play goals to finish the first period scoring. The first goal came from Matt Prapevessiss (4-11--15) at the 7:44 mark of the first.  Kevin Kapalka was then replaced by Kevin Murdock (4-4-0) in net for the Lakers less than a minute later due to what appeared to be a leg injury suffered during a scrum at the net.

The Lakers pulled within two goals early in the third period when Perfetto tallied his second goal of the season off of assists from Globke and Campbell (7-8--15).  However, the Lakers surrendered an empty net goal with 4:46 remaining in the game.

Kapalka ended his night with four saves before Murdock entered the game and accumulated 35 saves in the losing effort.  Freshman netminder Jesse Wilkins (1-1-3) picked up his first career victory after posting 41 saves for the Beavers.

The Lakers finished the night 0-for-2 on the power-play.

With the win, BSU ended an eight-game winless streak. LSSU suffered back-to-back home losses for the second time this season.
