Box Score SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State dropped Game Two
of its home hockey series against Michigan Tech, 3-2, and finished
2-2 against the Huskies during regular-season play. The Lakers
(11-8-1 overall, 7-7-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association)
suffered their third straight WCHA Saturday loss to remain .500 in
league play.
LSSU junior forward Andrew Dommett (5-3--8) opened the scoring
at 10:37 of the first period on a power-play goal from sophomore
defenseman Eric Drapluk (5-4--9) and freshman forward Garret
Clemment (3-7--10).
Blake Pietila tied the game 1-1 at 6:41 of the second with a
power-play goal for the Huskies (7-11-6 overall, 5-5-4 WCHA). Alex
Petan drew the lone assist. MTU took a 2-1 lead at 8:47 on a goal
by Ryan Furne.
Laker senior forward Colin Campbell (7-7--14) tied the game at
two on assists from freshman forward Alex Globke (8-10--18) at 9:37
of the second. What appeared to by a go-ahead goal by Laker Kevin
Czuczman at 11:09 of the third period was disallowed. After a
review, it was ruled that the shot hit the post.
Michigan Tech's Tanner Kero tallied the game-winning goal at
17:52 of the third.
Senior netminder Kevin Kapalka (7-5-1) tied his career-high
saves total and set a season high during the loss to MTU. Kapalka
made 48 saves between the pipes. Jamie Phillips (2-3-1) recored 27
saves for the win.
Both the Lakers and Huskies were 1-for-3 on the power-play.
LSSU, MTU and Bemidji State ended the weekend in a three-way tie
for fourth place in the WCHA standings. BSU, which was swept by
Northern Michigan at home this weekend, travels to Sault Ste. Marie
Jan. 10-11.
