SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University men's basketball team (4-5, 3-1 GLIAC) is set to travel to Quincy, Ill. for a pair of nonconference games at the Hansen - Spear Holiday Classic. They will face the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Saturday before taking on the host school, Quincy, on Sunday.

The Bearcats have gotten off to a fast start this season, boasting a 7-3 overall record, including opening the season with victories over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes, Grand Valley and Ferris State. They operate a balanced offense that scores an average of 78 points per game, and they are led by Quinn Nelson who is currently averaging 15.6 points per contest and has eclipsed 25 points on two occasions. 

The Quincy Hawks have rebounded from a slow start to the season, winning three of their last five games for a 5-5 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, but their most recent loss came at the hands of a feisty Grand Valley State team that pushed the Lakers into overtime when they last met in the Soo on Dec. 3. Four Hawks are currently averaging double-digit scoring, and Jamaurie Coakley has proven to be a menace on the defensive end of the floor, averaging nearly two steals per contest. Quincy will take on East-West University in the second game of the Friday double-header before taking on the Lakers on Saturday.
