Women's Basketball: Bradford Snags 18 Rebounds At Davenport, Passes Rayman For Third On Laker List

Grace Bradford attacks rebounds with focus and determination.

All 18 of them on Saturday. The Lake Superior State senior pulled down 18 and scored 16 points, but the Lakers (0-7, 0-2 GLIAC) dropped a 74-59 loss at Davenport (1-6, 1-1 GLIAC). Her career-high of 21 also came against DU, back in February of 2024.

Bradford passed former teammate Mattison Rayman ('23) for third on the Lakers all-time rebounding list. With 875 boards, she moved past Rayman's 874 and sits in striking distance of Chris Nance ('96), an LSSU Hall of Famer that grabbed 882 rebounds in her playiing career.

A testament to her rebounding prowess at Lake State, 18 isn't Bradford's career-best. It's not even her career-high against Davenport. Back on February 22nd, 2024, Bradford snatched 21 boards against the Panthers, passing 500 career rebounds in the process. She's remained a constant presence and leader for the Lakers throughout her tenure.

In Saturday's matchup at Davenport, she also added two assists and three steals. Dara Capaldi played all 40 minutes, hitting six of her 12 shots for 20 points and adding three blocked shots.

The Lakers hammered the glass well all day, posting 16 offensive boards as a team. Bradford's 18, Capaldi's 10 and Seyyane Matthew's nine rebounds led the way. LSSU defended the perimeter well, keeping Davenport to just two made three-pointers. Lake State's intense second-half pressure forced seven steals as well.

LSSU heads home to face Walsh on Monday, December 15th in a nonconference doubleheader. The Women's Basketball game starts at 12:00 PM, with the Men's Basketball game against Rochester Christian set to start at 2:00 PM.
