Grace Bradford set Lake Superior State's all-time rebounding record, grabbing her 1,001st career rebound against Michigan Tech at SDC Gym on Thursday night. But the Lakers (5-16, 2-11 GLIAC) lost 89-76 to the Huskies in GLIAC play.
Bradford's history-making rebound came on a missed three with 2:42 left in the first quarter by MTU's Khloe Zentkowski. She broke the 43-year old record held by Marti Wallace ('83), a Class of 1997 Hall of Fame inductee.
For the game, Bradford scored 17 points, snatched 10 rebounds, passed for 4 assists, and blocked a shot against the Huskies (13-8, 7-6 GLIAC).
At the half, the Huskies led 49-35, but the Lakers chipped away with a strong third quarter. They cut the gap to five points with just under a minute left in the quarter, with a made jumper by Bradford. The Huskies now only held a 68-61 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
But the Lakers continued to chip away at the MTU lead. Lara Aguzzi sank a right-wing three off a Bradford pass, cutting the deficit to 72-69 with a little over six minutes left in the contest. Aguzzi finished with 16 points on the night, while also grabbing five rebounds and totaling four three point makes. But the Huskies were able to rally and restore their lead to hang on for the result.
